Rooter raises $25M in Series A round

E-sports and games streaming platform, Rooter has now secured $25 million in its Series A funding round.

The round was backed by March Gaming, Lightbox, and Duane Park, as well as some of the existing investor's Health Tech Partners and lead Sports.

Goal ventures, Advantage, 9Unicorns, Capital-A, Sports Tech Fund also participated in the funding round.

The startup was able to facilitate a secondary shares sale for a few of its investors with the help of funding round, as well as chart an exit route for a few of the employees via ESOP buyback. It also expects to use the new fresh funds to double its team size by hiring across the various parts of Delhi.

Rooter was founded in 2016. It started as a social network and online community for sports fans, similar to Fancred and chatted sports in the US and FanCode in India.

Executive Opinion

"The Indian gaming space has evolved from popular arcade games like Tekken and street fighter to competitive games like Battlegrounds Mobile and Freefire on smartphones. The sector is growing faster than most media sub-sectors like home entertainment and audio, among others," Piyush told in a report.

"We are the only player in the market that has started monetization to open up all monetizing opportunities, including advertising and performance marketing," he added.
